IN THE REGION: Royal Caribbean has been busy making changes to its plans across Asia for the past week. The latest update being the postponement of the Spectrum of the Seas sailings out of Hong Kong.

Early this morning, with less than two weeks to departure, the cruise line announced yet another round of cancellations of its Ocean Getaway voyages out of Hong Kong. The October 5th, 9th, and 10th sailing axed, pushing the inaugural sailing to October 14, 2021. The Hong Kong Cruise Society shared that this was the third round of cancellations the cruise line has made for the much-anticipated Hong Kong season. Royal Caribbean mentioned that the delay was due to its crew being faced with tighter travel and quarantine restrictions on travellers by the government.

Genting Cruise Lines sails on

Hong Kong previously approved the restart of cruises with no destinations from July if they meet various criteria set out by the government. Another company, Genting Cruise Lines, is already sailing its similar-sized ship ‘Genting Dream’ under the Dream Cruises brand on such voyages for weeks.

The Spectrum of the Seas is now scheduled to sail on its first Ocean Getaway voyage out of Hong Kong on October 14, 2021.

Special Thanks to our counterparts in Hong Kong - the Hong Kong Cruise Society.
