Resorts World Cruises has announced a Dual Homeport operation in Malaysia. The Genting Dream, currently based out of Singapore and sailing 2 to 3-night cruises to Malaysia and Indonesia, will also be picking up passengers from Port Klang, Malaysia, beginning as soon as July 18, 2022.

The cruise line added that it will be the first to add a Kuala Lumpur homeport, and the move is expected to benefit guests coming from Malaysia, who currently have to travel down to Singapore in order to board a cruise, which ultimately brings them back to Malaysia.

Tapping Into An Existing Customer Base

In a press release by Resorts World Cruises, the dual homeport was to “further cater for the demand of round-trip cruises, targeting the 10 million population residing in central Peninsular Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca), who live within a short drive of Port Klang, the embarkation port.” The cruise line also stated that Port Klang’s proximity to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will also give international travellers greater flexibility in choice of airlines and fares, which may be drawn in comparison to the higher airfares to Changi Airport in Singapore.

“Resorts World Cruises is excited to take the lead for the cruise sector to boost the in-and-outbound tourists for Singapore; and to bring cruising to the ‘doorsteps’ of Malaysians residing in central Peninsular Malaysia as they can depart from Kuala Lumpur, which is convenient and affordable,” said Mr. Michael Goh, President of Resorts World Cruises. “As Genting Dream is certified as the World’s First OIC/SMIIC [Organisation of Islamic Cooperation / The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries] Standard Halal-Friendly Cruise ship, this will appeal to a significant segment of Malaysian and international travellers across the region”, he added.

Offering Greater Flexibility In Travel Options

Resorts World Cruises has also announced the introduction of one-way itineraries, citing the one-way journeys as an alternative to the current modes of travel, namely by air and land. This is expected to give travel agents and travellers a larger range of options for their travels between Malaysia and Singapore, with the one-way and round-trip cruises from either port of embarkation.

Itineraries On Offer (Port Klang Sailings)

With the dual homeport, guests can now choose to begin their Genting Dream cruise from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, via Port Klang. In addition to cruises departing from Singapore, sailings from Port Klang include:

  • 3-Night Penang-Singapore Cruises departing Mondays, beginning July 18, 2022

  • 2-Night Singapore Cruises departing Thursdays, beginning July 21, 2022

  • 2-Night Singapore Cruises departing Saturdays, beginning July 23, 2022

The cruise line has also announced the cessation of the 2-Night Bintan cruises departing Singapore on Fridays, beginning July 22, 2022. These cruises will be replaced with a 2-Night High Seas Weekend Getaway cruise, departing every Friday.

Sailings from Singapore have also been adjusted to accommodate the Dual-Homeport operation. The itineraries are:

  • 3-Night Port Klang-Penang Cruises departing Sundays
